If Mr Eazi can experiment some more and unravel parts of himself that we are yet to enjoy, then he’ll be able to go through the year……
We love Mr Eazi, and all that he did for Nigerian music in 2016.
With his creative input and reset of our local sounds, the man infused the country with numerous hit songs which have created a new wave for more acts to model their sound after the star.
The singer was imperious in 2016, working the radio and the charts with intensive work in releasing and records and collaborating with bigger stars. Last year alone, he ollaborated on over 20 released tracks, with artistes drawn from different classes of influence. He also found himself on Beats 1, and received the most intense coverage on local and international media, due to the ubiquity of his materials.
Today, 2016 is in the past, and a new journey is about to begin.
Mr Eazi, to celebrate the New Year is on holiday. He is traveling through different towns in Tanzania, and unwinding from such a great year. He is hugging beaches, taking boat rides, and meeting new people in Zanzibar.
But the real work begins this year. Last year, the singer rode on the novelty of his sound to get by. This year, he will need more than last year. He can’t continue to beast through by just releasing music with anyone and everyone. A little selfish strategy from his team will serve him good.
Eazi has a new mixtape that will be released soon. That mixtape is et to be his first body of work in Nigeria, and would signal the start of work towards his album. His discography still sounds fresh, and he will have to move with speed.
To maintain his uniqueness will need more work. Mr Eazi will have to evolve. His sound, which is distinct will not last forever at its current height of acceptance. People get tired, people get bored, people move on. To avoid that, he needs more dynamism. He needs evolution.
Mr Eazi needs to test himself more and leave his comfort zone. That mid-tempo bubble that has worked for him will have to be adapted to newer needs and sound fresh and inspired. He needs to engage more producers and get them to push the boundaries of his artistry via experimentation.
If Mr Eazi can experiment some more and unravel parts of himself that we are yet to enjoy, then he’ll be able to go through the year, and drop an album to rival the best in the game.
Mr Eazi has been phenomenal in 2016. In 2017, he needs to do more.
