NAIJ.com gathered that many were seen across Akure, the Ondo state capital in jubilant mood as they basked in the believe that justice had been served as regards the mandate of the Ikare-born industrialist, whose popularity amongst the people had even soared higher since the ill-fated primary some three weeks ago.
A party chieftain in Akure, Comrade Olusola Iji, was quoted saying: “This recommendation is not farfetched at all. The level of fraudulent activities that marred that election which surprisingly produced Akeredolu were too alarming to be ignored by the Appeal committee. This cancellation recommendation is consistent with the anti-corruption stance of the party, and you can see that the people are very happy about it.”
Indigenes of Ikare-Akoko, the home town of the renowned investor had been in mourning mood since the result of the primary election was announced and found to be laced with irregularities particularly on the disputed delegates list used for the exercise.
They had been protesting against forces that blocked the victory of their son, Abraham and went on prayer and fasting sessions to facilitate the declaration of fresh primary which would give him another opportunity to become the APC candidate for the November 26 poll.
Youths and market women in the community who were in happy mood praised the Appeal Committee for standing on the path of truth inspite of alleged pressure on its members not to order for a fresh fraud-free primary election.
Dr Segun Abraham’s supporters hailed the APC panel decision to cancel the September 3 primary poll declared in favour of Rotimi Akeredolu.
They said since many stakeholders including the observers had randomly condemned the ‘behind the scene’ revelations of the shadow poll, the National Working Committee(NWC) should not support irregularities.
Many people in Akure, Ilara-mokin, Igbara-Oke, Iju-Itaogbolu, also in Ese-Odo, Ilaje and Ikale regions of the state, reportedly also hailed the cancellation, which they said must be supported by all and sundry.
Some Okada riders were seen jubilating at the Akure garage area in Ikare-Akoko over the cancellation, expressing optimism that Abraham would get the governorship ticket if NWC ratified the recommendation.
NAIJ. com recalls that Dr. Segun Abraham, runner up in the APC governorship primaries in Ondo state, recently rejected the results of September 3 results, following the emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as the party’s flag bearer.
