The battle for the chairmanship position of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, got fiercer on
Thursday as supporters of Senators Ahmed
Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff met again at the
national secretariat of the party brandishing
Makarfi’s supporters who arrived as early as
6am at the secretariat armed with cutlasses
barricaded the entrance into the national
secretariat displaying banners with the
inscription, “PDP youths support Makarfi, Sheriff
is an APC agent”.
Shortly after, supporters of Sheriff who were
fewer in number also arrived beating drums and
chanting songs in support of Senator Sheriff.
The drama did not last long before the Makarfi
group chased the Sheriff group away from the
secretariat, as Police and DSS officials deployed
to the secretariat looked on.
The protesters stormed the offices, chasing out
the national secretary and auditor of the party.
They later chained and locked the gates to the
secretariat, handing the keys over to the
chairman of the party’s BoT, Walid Jubril.
This is happening despite the PDP Governors
Forum and Board of Trustees meeting where the
party insisted that Makarfi remains its caretaker
